Wi‑Fi Won't Connect or No Internet on Windows 11

Category: Windows 11 · Audience: Customers & Technicians · Est. time: 10–25 min

Summary

"No internet" problems fall into two buckets: the PC can't join the Wi‑Fi, or it joins but has no internet. These steps cover both.

Symptoms

  • Wi‑Fi network doesn't appear or won't connect
  • Connected with a "No internet" warning
  • Globe icon instead of the Wi‑Fi icon in the taskbar

Solution

  1. Confirm the outage isn't network‑wide. Check another device on the same Wi‑Fi. If nothing works, restart the router/modem (power off 30 seconds, back on) and retry.
  2. Toggle Wi‑Fi / Airplane mode. Click the network icon (bottom‑right) → turn Airplane mode on for 10 seconds, then off. Confirm Wi‑Fi is On.
  3. Forget and rejoin the network. Settings → Network & internet → Wi‑Fi → Manage known networks → select the network → Forget, then reconnect and re‑enter the password.
  4. Run the network troubleshooter. Settings → System → Troubleshoot → Other troubleshooters → Network & Internet → Run.
  5. Renew the IP address (Technician). In Terminal (Admin):
ipconfig /release
ipconfig /renew
ipconfig /flushdns
  1. Reset the network stack (Technician). If still failing:
netsh winsock reset
netsh int ip reset

Then reboot.

  1. Network reset (last resort). Settings → Network & internet → Advanced network settings → Network reset. This reinstalls all adapters and reboots — you'll need to re‑enter Wi‑Fi passwords.

If that doesn't work

  • Update the Wi‑Fi adapter driver: Device Manager → Network adapters → right‑click the wireless adapter → Update driver, or get it from the PC maker's site.
  • Test with an Ethernet cable — if wired works but Wi‑Fi doesn't, it's the adapter/driver or the router's wireless.
  • Escalate to BBN Support with the PC model and whether other devices connect fine.

Prevention

  • Keep network adapter drivers current.
  • Note the correct Wi‑Fi name/password so re‑joining is quick.
