Connect to the Office VPN (Remote Access)
Category: Remote Access & VPN · Audience: Customers & Technicians · Est. time: 5–15 min
Summary
A VPN gives your remote computer a secure connection into the office network so you can reach servers, shared drives, and internal systems. Most BBN sites use Sophos Connect; the steps are similar for other clients.
ℹ️ You need the VPN client installed and a provisioning/config file from BBN. If you don't have these, contact BBN Support — we'll send them.
Connect with Sophos Connect
- Open Sophos Connect (blue shield icon in the system tray, or from the Start menu).
- Select your connection profile and click Connect.
- Enter your username and password (usually your normal work login) and approve the MFA prompt if asked.
- The status turns green / "Connected." You can now reach office resources.
- When finished, click Disconnect to free up the connection.
First‑time setup
- Install the client BBN provided (Sophos Connect or the client for your site).
- Import the configuration file BBN sent: open the client → Import connection → select the
.tgb/.ovpn/.scxfile. - Connect as above.
If it won't connect
- Check your internet first — open a website. No internet = fix that before the VPN.
- Restart the VPN client (fully quit from the system tray, reopen).
- Reboot the computer and try again.
- Wrong password after a reset? Update it and retry; approve MFA.
- "Authentication failed" or stuck connecting: note the exact message and contact BBN Support — it may be an account, certificate, or firewall‑side issue.
If that doesn't work
- Try from a different network (e.g. phone hotspot) — some public/hotel Wi‑Fi blocks VPNs.
- Escalate to BBN Support with the client name, the error text, and the network you're on.
Prevention
- Keep the VPN client updated; don't delete the imported profile.
